Freshers @ Fé Collective End-of-Year Show
The House We Inherit is a group exhibition by Fé Collective’s inaugural Freshers cohort, exploring inheritance as the rituals that give us a sense of belonging. Across cultures these rituals differ, yet they share a common purpose: to transform physical space into a place of belonging. The exhibition proposes that the values, traditions, and ways of being passed between generations are our richest inheritance.
United by the desire to honour their elders, whether parents, grandparents, or those who came before them, the artists explore perennial ideas of wisdom through the language of craftsmanship, revealing the knowledge they have inherited. Dr. David Cranswick describes craftsmanship as an act of revelation. Through repetition, a process that, according to Gandhi, leads to a meditative state of mind, the maker uncovers what has always been there, making visible what was once unseen. Each artist turns inward, preserving cultural traditions and folklore, honouring family craftsmanship, revealing hidden female narratives, and rediscovering home within the body.
Through their meticulous craftsmanship, the artists invite us to look beyond the finished artwork and recognise the rituals, traditions, and acts of devotion from which it emerged. In doing so, they honour those in their lineage, seek the truths their ancestors discovered, and allow them to illuminate their own lives. Craftsmanship carries inherited and divine wisdom, and through beauty and revelation it leads us home.
